5 Famous Physics Experiments

Updated: Feb 21, 2019

Many scientific theories have been successfully proved by Experiments in a way which deemed impossible or hysterical. The successful experiments have made history and laid path to change the future for good.

Here we will find out the top 5 physics experiments that are a leading milestones in physics.

Galileo Experiment

Galileo proved Aristotle that heavier objects fall faster, wrong with his famous science experiment by dropping balls weighing different amounts from the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Despite their weight difference, the two balls reached the ground at the same exact time. Thus, Galileo proved his claims.

Isaac Newton Experiment

In 1672, Isaac Newton placed a triangle glass (prism) along his window and split sunlight into many colors. This experiment is a landmark revelation that led to many other interesting and essential discoveries about the light spectrum and its properties.

Henry Cavendish Experiment

Cavendish's experiment involved measuring the density of Earth, from which its mass can be calculated. The experiment consists of two small balls mounted on the ends of a stick and two larger ones mounted on a second stick. The larger balls would twist back and forth, attracted by the gravitational force that the smaller balls exerted on them. With this he was able to measure the density of Earth which became a dominant technique for measuring the Gravitational constant.

Ernest Rutherford Experiment

In 1909, Rutherford along with Geiger and Marsden, discovered the atomic structure using the famously known Gold foil experiment. By firing a beam of alpha particles at a thin gold foil. Most of the alpha particles shot straight were unaffected. The few that were deflected had been fired very near positive charge, thus proving that atom contains positive charge in the nucleus and electrons in the empty space.

Rosalind Franklin Experiment

X-ray diffraction had thrown light on immense and critical information regarding DNA structure using a similar concept to shadow puppetry. Franklin had taken a particularly important X ray diffraction photo, which revealed a huge amount of information about the structure of DNA. Although it's well known that Francis Crick and James Watson discovered the structure of DNA
